Week ending in 09/03/2022

Even into the next week, I am still dealing with the same podcast episode. The file for the second half was rendered with issues that we not audible in the multitrack of Adobe Audition. This has required me to go back to the raw audio file (I made a copy in case a hard edit caused issues) and make new cuts in the multitrack and replace the audio in the final file.

I use Anchor as a podcasting host and at least these edits are easy to upload to replace the audio only files that had issues. And do so without having to create the entire file for a 1 hr. show and upload the entire thing at once.

The video editing was much smoother than the previous week of work for the first half of the episode. I had gotten a hang for it given the ability to see where each person is talking. Multi-track is a blessing when it comes to that type of editing. The video was completed and from there it was put out on our website and has been posted across some of our socials. LinkedIn gave it quite a bit of attention given that the interviews were with industry professionals that are all on LinkedIn. Was a bit surprised when the Texas Ag Commissioner Sid Miller even gave a reaction to an episode posted in the feed.

The next piece of work for footage was to edit episode 51 of our podcast, which my co-host Gramps took over for the week as I was out with my wife celebrating our 12th anniversary together. This gave me an opportunity to utilize some of the skills I used on the previous editing of a camera, on a prerecorded set of footage where each person is already aligned, etc. I realized that the motion presets I was creating for position, could also be utilized for motion to zoom in and out on a guest by making the image bigger/smaller and moving it horizontally as needed.

This took me longer than I was taking to make edits when interviews were on Zoom, because those interviews didn’t need cuts to do this technique, it was being switched automatically by Zoom settings using the speaker. It wasn’t as long as the camera footage though, and that’s likely because of picking up the techniques to make this more efficient.

From there I had to compile the footage for the Cannarock event I attended and spoke at the previous Saturday. The difficult things is trying to find an angle which to begin with to give the video short a style. It means going through an hour of footage and clips to figure out what works best in a position. I totally lucked out in that the music I picked out synced up really well to the clips as they were edited. Tweaks could be made if necessary, but it worked out really well. Hours of editing, just to come up with a 1 minute and 30 second clip for an event coordinator to use next year to promote the event again.
